A memorial mosaic, for Kendra Parry

This is the mosaic I made for my friend Kendra Parry, who died on May 10th. I made it to bring a little brightness into the ICU she had been confined to for weeks, as she fought to stay alive. Her husband, cam, was able to take it to her a few days before we lost her, so she was able to see something beautiful in the midst of the grim ICU. It was very comforting to be working on it during those distressing days, especially as I was using the mugs she’d given me specifically for smashing up for mosaics.. There wasn’t anything else I could do for her, and it helped a little to be able to do this.

Kendra was kindness itself, a generous, open-hearted woman who always did what she could for people. I loved her. Everyone who knew her loved her. I am very grateful to have known her for the last 6 years, and I miss her. As I think of her now and every day, I feel sadness, but I also smile. It’s impossible to think of her and not smile, and I think that would please her. The mosaic is called “Song for Kendra.”
